Kitchen fabrication and installation involve different responsibilities. A homeowner should be able to identify who approves the manufacturing information, who receives the cabinetry and who installs it. For a Morgan Hill project, those handoffs should be documented before the kitchen arrives at the property.

Freeze the information used for fabrication

The released package should identify the current shop drawings, verified dimensions, appliance information, approved samples and hardware schedule. If part of the kitchen remains undecided, label that assembly as unreleased. A discussion or marked-up image should not silently replace the approved drawing revision.

Check the details that are easy to overlook on a floor plan: exposed cabinet ends, island backs, fillers, returns, appliance panels and transitions to adjacent finishes. Their appearance and dimensions need to be resolved in the manufacturing information.

Define the receiving handoff

Before delivery, confirm the receiving contact, access route, unloading responsibility and designated protected location for the material. Ask how packages and assemblies will be identified against the drawings. If delivery must be phased, connect each shipment to a clearly defined part of the kitchen.

Use the applicable supplier instructions and contract procedure for inspection. Record visible damage, missing packages or identification discrepancies promptly, with photographs and assembly references. Do not assume that accepting a shipment resolves a concealed or later-discovered issue; follow the agreed reporting process.

Confirm the installer's readiness requirements

The installing contractor should identify the site conditions required before work begins, including preceding trades, substrate and backing conditions, finished floor assumptions and access. The project team must resolve discrepancies rather than asking an installer to improvise changes to approved cabinetry.

Installation services requiring a contractor's license are performed under a separate agreement by appropriately licensed independent contractors. Clarify responsibility for fastening, adjustments, appliance interfaces and coordination with adjoining work in that agreement. This guide is a coordination checklist, not structural installation instructions.

Control field changes

If a wall, opening or service location differs from the approved basis, identify the affected assembly and obtain a reviewed solution before modifying it. Distinguish an installation adjustment permitted by the approved detail from a change that affects fabrication, finish or function. Record authorization and any cost or timing consequence.

Close out by assembly, not by memory

Create a punch list with location, issue, responsible party and completion status. Separate appearance concerns from operating adjustments and missing components. Retain the final drawing revision, approved finish references and care information so that later questions can be traced to the actual package.
