Send drawings for a proposalView completed Berkeley workFor a new home in Morgan Hill, architectural millwork should be coordinated before framing, services and finish dimensions make key choices difficult to change. The aim is a buildable room package: a defined relationship between cabinetry, panels, doors, stone, lighting and the surrounding construction.
Establish the room and assembly schedule
Give each room and assembly an identifier that stays consistent across the interior designer's elevations, the contractor's drawings and the manufacturer's shop drawings. Separate kitchen cabinetry, dressing rooms, vanities, libraries and wall paneling instead of treating the home as one undefined allowance.
For each assembly, record the design reference, approximate dimensions, material direction and unresolved decisions. Identify work supplied by other trades, including stone, appliances, decorative lighting, upholstery or specialty metalwork. An early scope schedule helps reveal missing interfaces even when final dimensions are not ready.
Coordinate backing and services before walls close
The project team should identify where cabinetry or panels require support, where services enter an assembly and where access must remain available. Tall or suspended elements need a defined support detail appropriate to their construction and use. Do not assume that a decorative elevation provides that detail.
Coordinate electrical outlets, low-voltage equipment, plumbing and lighting drivers with the relevant trades. For a media wall, discuss equipment ventilation and cable access. For a vanity, review plumbing clearances and the selected basin. Integrated lighting needs an agreed location for serviceable components, not simply a note saying LED.
Define the finished surfaces used for measurement
A framing dimension and a finished opening are not interchangeable. Record the finished floor reference, wall build-up, stone thickness and ceiling condition used in the millwork drawings. Identify which dimensions the contractor can confirm now and which must be checked after specified work is complete.
Make the measurement responsibility explicit. If the design changes after field verification, identify the affected assemblies and check whether the measurements remain valid. Keep the approved dimensions connected to the drawing revision used for fabrication.
Resolve the visible details together
Review reveals, door and drawer proportions, end panels, fillers, scribes and the way grain or panel joints continue across a composition. A kitchen elevation may look complete while leaving the refrigerator panel, countertop overhang or adjacent passage clearance unresolved.
For veneer and painted work, approve the material and finish reference separately from the drawing layout. Record grain direction, acceptable variation, sheen and exposed-edge treatment. Where a junction controls the appearance, a section or sample can communicate the requirement more reliably than an inspiration photograph.
Release only the work with resolved dependencies
Some rooms can proceed while others remain in design. Before a phased release, confirm that the independent portion does not rely on dimensions, shared grain sequencing or components still being selected elsewhere.
Record the room numbers, approved revisions and remaining holds in writing. The schedule should distinguish procurement, fabrication, delivery and installation. A fabrication date does not establish when rooms will be ready for installation, and no general production claim replaces a project-specific commitment.
Prepare receiving and installation conditions
Agree who checks site access, unloading, room readiness and protection of completed finishes. Identify storage arrangements if completed work must wait. Coordinate the sequence with stone, flooring, electrical and plumbing work before dispatch.
Millwork USA LLC provides design-development, manufacturing, supply, delivery coordination and related project services. Installation services requiring a contractor's license are performed under separate agreement by appropriately licensed independent contractors. Confirm the installation scope and responsible parties in the relevant agreements.
