Custom-made furniture in the Bay Area.

Furniture and built-ins developed for a particular room and use. Millwork USA reviews desks, shelving, media furniture and storage pieces with homeowners and design teams across the Bay Area.

Still planning? Tell us the rooms, project location and target timing. You can start the conversation without a complete drawing set.

Scope and coordination

Developed around your project.

Define what the piece must do

Start with intended use, overall dimensions, storage needs and the objects or equipment the piece will hold. For a desk, identify work-surface and cable requirements; for media furniture, provide equipment and access information. Mark priorities and open decisions rather than leaving them implied by a reference photograph.

Built-in or freestanding

A built-in must coordinate with walls, floors, trim and adjacent services. A freestanding piece needs an agreed finish on visible sides and a practical plan for movement and placement. Construction, supporting details and delivery access are reviewed for the individual commission; the two approaches are not interchangeable specifications.

Agree on the material and delivery scope

Drawings establish proportions, openings, hardware and visible junctions. Samples confirm the material and finish direction. The proposal should state what is included in delivery, assembly, placement and any site work, with allowances and exclusions visible before approval. Revised requirements are reviewed before they become fabrication instructions.

What to send for an estimate

Send the intended use, approximate dimensions, room photographs, material references and project location. Tell us whether you need one piece or a coordinated group, built-in or freestanding, and your target timing.

Serving Bay Area projects from Morgan Hill. Los Angeles-area projects are reviewed by location, scope, and installation requirements.

Separate the specification from the estimate

Identify the cabinet or panel substrate, visible finish, edge treatment, hardware and installation interfaces in your brief. State which items are specified and which need review. Availability, load ratings, moisture exposure and finish samples must be confirmed before manufacture; a planning guide is not a product specification or a fixed-price offer.

Completed residential references: Los Angeles cabinetry and illuminated storage, Lancaster kitchen and living-room built-ins, and Berkeley kitchen, island and fitted casework.

Millwork USA LLC provides custom millwork design-development, manufacturing, supply, delivery coordination and related project services. Installation services requiring a contractor's license are performed under separate agreement by appropriately licensed independent contractors.

Berkeley Residence — built-in dressing counter and storage; not freestanding furniture.

The Berkeley gallery provides completed cabinetry and built-in details for discussion. It is not a catalogue of freestanding furniture; a new furniture commission needs its own approved scope.

Turn a furniture reference into a buildable brief

Use and dimensions

Identify working height, storage contents, equipment and the available room dimensions.

A photograph communicates a style, but does not establish usable openings, cable access or the dimensions needed for your room.

Built-in or freestanding

State whether the piece fits the walls or must be movable with all visible sides finished.

Wall interfaces, exposed backs, supporting details and assembly methods differ. Confirm the approach before comparing estimates.

Materials and details

Specify visible wood or painted surfaces, edge treatment, hardware and intended grain direction.

Veneer, solid wood and decorative panels have different detailing needs. Samples and construction drawings define the actual commission.

Delivery and assembly

Provide access dimensions, stairs or lifts, and the final location of the piece.

Large pieces may require a planned assembly sequence. Delivery, placement, fixing and site work should be explicit in the scope.

Before you send the brief

Questions about your project.

Can you review a single custom piece?

Yes. Send the intended use, approximate dimensions, reference images and project location, and identify whether the piece is built-in or freestanding. We review the commission individually; acceptance, pricing and timing depend on the construction and current project requirements.

Can a desk or media unit incorporate equipment?

Provide the actual equipment dimensions, cable routes, access requirements and manufacturer ventilation guidance. These affect openings, removable panels and clearances. Equipment information should be coordinated in the drawings before the affected components are manufactured.

How is the price of a custom piece established?

The estimate follows the dimensions, construction, material and finish, drawers and hardware, and delivery or assembly scope. A built-in extending across an uneven wall is a different package from a movable cabinet of similar appearance. Review alternatives against the same functional requirements.

Which portfolio example is relevant to fitted furniture?

The Berkeley residence includes a built-in desk, drawers and full-height storage. It is a reference for fitted casework and room integration, not evidence of a completed freestanding furniture collection. Your piece receives its own dimensions, specification and scope review.
